Lighting Design for Commercial Projects
| The Peacock Bar, Liverpool |
|
A customised light solution was created for the Peacock bar, based in Liverpool’s trendy clubland quarter.
Following a brief to create an atmospheric red glow in the black and white bar, Lumenata worked with a local sign-making firm to create a prototype red Perspex light.
The frosted boxes were fitted with randomly placed T5 florescent tubes to achieve a funky light effect and special wireless dimmer modules were installed in each one so that light levels could be adjusted to create mood
“The red lights that Lumenata came up with are spot on, creating a warm and sumptuous atmosphere without being overly trendy and we get a lot of people commenting on how great it looks” said Peacock Bar operations director Alfie Torres

| Royal Preston Hopsital, Lancashire |
|
Innovative lighting turned the Royal Preston Hospital’s new £1.1m A&E entrance into an eye catching feature.
Lumenata Lighting Design was commissioned to come up with a striking scheme for the centrepiece pagoda style canopy which covers three separate A&E entrances - one for adults, children and patients arriving by ambulance.
Contemporary drum style light fittings, with fluorescent lamps at either end, were set on each pillar to send light both up into the canopy and down to the floor. Our scheme used the latest energy saving photocell light detectors so that lights would switch off automatically during daylight and energy efficient LED uplights were set in the ground to highlight each entrance.
“The new lighting fixtures provide a very striking effect, particularly in the evening. It has turned our A&E department into something that is architecturally attractive, as well as functional” said Mark Greenwood, Assistant Director Property Services, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

| Ashton and Lea Golf Club, Preston |
|
"This energy efficient lighting scheme enabled the 101-year old Ashton and Lea Golf Club in Preston to reduce its carbon footprint and instantly slash energy bills by around 30%.
The scheme featured some of the latest low energy light fittings, combined with ‘intelligent’ lighting technology to maximise on energy savings.
These included sensors in the club’s changing rooms, where lights were previously left on all day due to the lack of natural light, to switch lights off automatically when the rooms are empty" said
Simon Plumb, Ashton and Lea Golf Club general manager

| Property Developer, Manchester |
|
Our customer, a preminent property developer based in the North West of England, was having difficulty getting planning approval for the exterior lighting on a new development in the centre of Manchester. The developer needed a scheme that made the property stand out, without spoiling the look of the façade of this listed building. After discussing the requirements of the project with the client and despite there being no formal CAD plans available for this building, Lumenata Lighting Design Ltd surveyed the building and then began to model the proposed lighting scheme for the property. Armed with the computer generated simulation of the proposed lighting design and a data sheet describing the proposed luminaire, Lumenata Lighting Design Ltd enabled our customer to quickly achieve the planning permission required to allow the scheme to progress.
Our customer commented ‘We were very pleased by how quickly Lumenata Lighting Design Ltd were able to generate the lighting design without the aid of CAD plans and amazed at how accurately the lighting design reflected what was achieved with the final scheme.
This demonstrates the power of using a professional lighting design company not only helps to progress schemes through the planning stage but also allows our clients to appreciate the final outcome of a lighting design very early in the design process.

| Piccadilly Office Development, Manchester |
|
The Piccadilly office development is a six storey development of fully serviced offices. Our customer, a predominant property developer in this field, needed something to set his development apart from the other similar offerings in this highly competitive city centre market and therefore asked us to assist the interior designer on the scheme. Although we were initially called in to provide a stunning lighting design for the reception area, Lumenata Lighting Design Ltd was soon commissioned to design and supply the lights for the entire project. There were various ways that using Lumenata Lighting Design benefited the project, as follows:
• With over 300 office light fittings needed, it was important to use the correct office light fitting in terms of looks, energy consumption, unit cost and installation cost. Our design team proposed a shortlist of luminaires and provided design information for each option that optimised the number of lights needed to illuminate the offices to the required level of 400 lux. The customer’s final option provided the levels of light needed, while consuming only 66% of the power and at only 50% of the cost of the products originally proposed for the project.
• In addition to the functional lighting in the offices, Lumenata Lighting Design Ltd provided the lighting for the rest of the complex, with an eye on energy consumption and costs. LED lighting was used were possible due to the advantages of low energy consumption and low maintenance due to extended lamp life.
• In certain cases where the correct lights were not commercially available, we commissioned one of our Italian suppliers to manufacture lights that would meet the requirements of light output, lighting effect, luminaire aesthetics and budgetary constraints.
Within a week of showing perspective tenants the offices, our customer had received positive feedback on the lighting, with potential clients commenting that this particular development was far lighter and brighter compared to the other complexes they had visited in the centre of Manchester, which appeared gloomy in comparison.
This project demonstrates how professional lighting design, can give a property a competitive edge and who better to provide that lighting design that Lumenata Lighting Design Ltd, who take light seriously.

| Shannon’s Mill, Walsall |
|
Shannon’s Mill in Walsall is a multi purpose development comprising a major grocery store, town centre apartments and a public multi storey car park. Our customer, a major M&E contractor, instructed Lumenata Lighting Design Ltd to produce a lighting design for the car park that provided the specified light levels with the minimum number of lights. Using this approach had significant cost savings as the number of light fittings purchased could be minimised, as could the cost of installing the light fittings and there would be significant on-going savings to the end customer as the energy consumed when lighting the scheme is also minimised.
Using Lumenata Lighting Design Ltd, the customer was able to optimise the number of light fittings required and achieved the required savings three fold. While this is not the most glamorous of projects, we feel that it demonstrates that even a project such as the humble car park can seriously benefit from professional lighting design and who better to provide this than Lumenata Lighting Design Ltd – taking light seriously.

| Chorley Market, Lancashire |
|
Cleverly designed lighting helped to convert dimly lit Chorley market into a bright and modern shopping arcade.
Lumenata Lighting Design was asked to create a new lighting scheme as part of a £330,000 revamp of the historic covered market. Our scheme used the latest fluorescent lights set in the newly whitewashed beamed ceiling to showcase individual stalls and products.
Lighting was also used to create a dramatic effect along a covered central walkway, with metal halide spotlights fitted to each column to highlight the canopy overhead.
“Previously, it was very dim as soon as you came away from the central aisle and everyone wanted to be there, but now there are no dark corners and we are filling up the rest of the market. We are finding that traders are encouraged to invest in their own stalls and fittings as a result.”
Conrad Heald, Chorley town centre manager

| Dolly Blue Bar, Cumbria |
|
Contemporary lighting helped to transform an olde worlde hotel pub into a chic, city centre style venue.
Lumenata Lighting Design used cutting edge intelligent lighting technology
to create an ultra modern atmosphere in the Dolly Blue Bar, part of the
Whitewater Hotel and Leisure Club in Newby Bridge in the Lake District.
The venue, previously called the Fisherman's Bar, was renamed during a £139k
refurbishment - which involved a complete refit - to link the venue with its
heritage as the former Backbarrow Cotton Mill producing Dolly Blue laundry whitener.
Lumenata placed colour changing LED strips in alcoves indoors and set buried LED uplights into the floor of a decked terrace outside that looks out across the spectacular River Leven.
The lights are linked to a central control panel and can be programmed to
brighten, dim and even change colour to suit the season - chilled blues and
greens in summer, warm reds and purples in winter - the weather, or even
the time of day.
A passageway - appropriately lit in the same cobalt blue shades as the Dolly
Blue product - leads customers into the new-look bar, which is in the
basement of the split level hotel. Lights have also been placed behind slate
panels fixed on to the new bar to create a stunning 'halo' effect.
"Everyone says how relaxed they feel when they come here now. It's brilliant
to be able to change the lighting to suit the mood of the day, so if it's a
really miserable, rainy day - as is often the case in a typical British
summer - we can choose warmer, cosier tones."
Gill Ellison, duty manager, Whitewater Hotel.
